Viikki
Geographically, Viikki is located right in the centre of Helsinki about 8 km away from the city centre.
Viikki has become a green university campus district. The Viikki Science Park is at the heart of the new town district. The Science Park is a centre for research, study and entrepreneurship focused on biology and biotechnology that has grown up around Helsinki University institutions.
There are currently over 11,000 inhabitants of Viikki, and the figure will grow by several thousand once the new residential areas are completed in the middle of the 2010s. The building of business premises will continue until the end of the 2010s.
Viikki is known as a pioneer of ecological building. Eco-Viikki is the first ecologically designed neighbourhood in Finland. The active and passive utilisation of solar energy has been one of the main themes of ecological experimental building in Viikki.
